The Spirit and the Bride Say Come!
The Spirit and the bride say, "Come." And let the one who hears say, "Come." And let the one who is thirsty come; let the one who wishes take the water of life without cost. (Revelation 22:17)
Can you picture it? There is such an excitement in my spirit man when thinking of this! But I struggled with this verse for a long time. I would tell people that they needed to count the cost to follow Jesus Christ. Yet God has been showing me through His loving-kindness how much it cost Him to pay for what I did not deserve. You see, it is only through a spirit of entitlement that we think we paid a great price. We cannot pay for something that has already been paid for! We only need to lay down our entitlements and receive freely what has been given to us without a cost.
But how can we do this? It is really quite simple.
He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To him who overcomes, I will grant of the tree of life which is in the Paradise of God. (Revelation 2:7)
He who overcomes...what are we overcoming? God states it clearly when He spoke to the angels of the seven churches in Revelation 2 through 3. Jesus came in the flesh to show us how to be obedient to God's Word, and He willingly took all of our sins and paid the price. It is up to us to overcome. And it is awesome how He offers for us to come to Him and drink of the living water.
But, it is not enough to just be obedient. He wants relationship with us. That is what we were created to do-walk with Him in the Garden just as Adam once did. That is why He sent His Son to restore that relationship. How could anyone not come to Him? Sadly, hearts become hardened, walls have been put up to self-protect from past hurts, and we are with spot and wrinkle. And we think we can hear Him clearly. But we cannot if there are still things to be renewed in our minds. It is that simple. If there is offense in our life, then there is disconnection in part of our hearing. This is part of the overcoming. There is no other way than to yield what we believe to be truth and allow Him to reveal the revelation of truth. He has so much more to offer, and in the end we will be able sup at the marriage feast with our Bridegroom!
Then He said to me, "It is done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give to the one who thirsts from the spring of the water of life without cost. (Revelation 21:6)
