Going The Distance - Faith
Therefore, since we have so great a cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us also lay aside every encumbrance and the sin which so easily entangles us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. (Hebrews 12:1-2)
What kind of race are you running? As I was spending time with the Lord this morning, He began to tell me how there is a spirit of religion out there that says that you should not ask for or pursue things. It says that you are to just serve and eventually God will provide the doors to open. This is one of the most subtle seducing spirits in the church (as an institution), and it is not lined up with God's Word.
God called each and every person to seek Him in relationship first. He co tells us that "the word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart." (Hebrews 4:12). Since the Bible is truth, don't you think we ought to know it inside and out?
Even when Jesus was taken into the wilderness, the only responses He gave the devil was the Word...because it IS living and active! It shut the devil up! The biggest part of this is that Jesus had an active and living relationship with His Father, so He knew His heart as well when it came to be the Living Word (John1:1). Once we become born again, we ALL have access to the Holy Spirit within our hearts, and every person then has the ability to hear from God personally. But this requires spending time with Him and surrendering our hearts to Him.
This is a process. It does not happen overnight, just like in any relationship. It takes times to build. But it does require us to lay aside every encumbrance as we go. This is how we begin to run the race. It does come with a cost, but I know Who wins in the end, so I would rather be on God's side than then other! That means you have to weigh the cost. What are you willing to give up in your life in order to truly walk out your destiny?
It is getting easier to see that the world's ways are failing. That should be enough to start deciding who in the world promises to provide for all of your needs like the God? NO ONE! Not one! This requires walking by faith and not by sight. We have to choose to believe God or not. Period. It is not an option. Either you choose to give power to God, or empower the devil to wreak havoc in your life. This does not mean that we do not go through trials and tribulations, but it does mean that no matter what I face, I can have peace that surpasses all understanding, even in the midst of a storm. I even have access to a Kingdom far greater that gives me the authority as a child of the most High King to take authority over that storm or tell a mountain to move.
But what are we believing? "Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. For by it the men of old gained approval. By faith we understand that the worlds were prepared by the word of God, so that what is seen was not made out of things which are visible." (Hebrews 11:1-3)
What do you put faith in? If you are a child of God, you are to walk in faith, "And without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of those who seek Him." (Hebrews 11:6) It seems pretty clear then, we have to seek Him!
If we don't, He even promises in His word that everything that can be shaken will be.
And His voice shook the earth then, but now He has promised saying, "Yet once more I will shake not only the earth, but also the heaven." This expression, "Yet once more," denotes the removing of those things which can be shaken, as of created things, so that those things which cannot be shaken may remain. Therefore, since we receive a kingdom which cannot be shaken, let us show a gratitude, by which we may offer to God an acceptable service with reverence and awe; for our God is a consuming fire. (Hebrews 12:26-29)
When everything is failing around you, what are you going to do? Who are you going to trust? Who are you going to believe? Don't give up! Seek the one true living God, and you will not be disappointed! Just remember, God has purposed you here for these times, and there are others that He is calling you to touch theirs lives with the gifts and talents that He has created you for. Don't lose hope, but rather give it!
Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful; and let us consider how to stimulate one another to love and good deeds. (Hebrews 10:23-24)
